How many cellar doors make a good day?
A few things to think about when planning a day of tastings in the Granite Belt.
There’s no single right number. The best day gives you time for the wines, the people and the places you’re interested in.
Start with what you enjoy
Two or three cellar doors can be a comfortable starting point if you’d also like lunch and time for conversation. You may prefer fewer, longer visits, or a different mix of stops. Look at each venue’s tasting format, booking times and the drive between them before deciding.
Leave room for lunch and the drive
A tasting can take longer than you expect, especially when you’re enjoying the conversation. Allow time to get from one place to the next, and include a meal and breaks in your plans. Keeping some stops close together can make the day easier.
You don’t need to know all the wine words
Tell your host what you like drinking, or say you’re keen to try something new. Questions are welcome. You can enjoy discovering what grows here whether you’re a regular cellar-door visitor or coming for your first tasting.
Arrange the ride home
Choose a designated driver who won’t be drinking, or arrange transport with an appropriately authorised operator, before booking your tastings. Plan the pickup and return as well as the stops along the way.
I’m preparing Private Days for small groups and would love to hear what you have in mind. Expressions of interest are welcome; bookings and payments are not open yet.
Before you travel, check tasting bookings, fees and opening hours directly with the venues you’d like to visit.
